Chapter 1

The story begins in North America. That time North America belonged to Great Britain and France. There was a war between the two armies. The French General Montcalm had a huge army and was a danger for British people. Two brithis girl, called Cora and Alice, were in danger and had to go to Fort William Henry. They would be safe there but the journey was difficult.
A British officer called Duncan, an Indian called Magua and a singing teacher helped the girls in their journey to Fort William Henry. The Indian, Magua, decided to take a secret path to Fort William Henry. However, they met other Indians called Uncas, Chingachgook and Hawk-eye who told them that this path was very dangerous for them.
Magua belonged to a tribe called ``Hurons´´ who were friends of french army.
Therefore, it was a trap for the girls and Magua was an enemy. The Indians tried to stop Magua but he escaped.

James Fenimore Cooper

James Fenimore Cooper (September 1789- September 1851) was a popular American writer of the early 19th century.
  His historical romances of frontier and Indian life in the early American days create a unique form of American literatura.
He´s  best remembered as a novelist who wrote numerous sea-stories and the historical novels known as the Leatherstocking Tales. Among his most famous works is the romantic novel The Last of the Mohicans (1826).
The Last of the Mohicans is the second book in a series of five adventure stories describing the life of early settlers in America.
